Make sure before buying your laptop, that you have at least 2 GB of RAM. 2 GB is perfect for the average computer user multi-tasking between Word documents, web browsers, media players, etc. Now lets go over the computer laptop CPU, or central processing unit. If you plan on doing a little more work or multi-tasking on your computer laptop, make sure that it has a 2 GHz CPU or greater. The higher the GHz, the faster your computer will run.

Hard drives are measured in Gigabytes; most cheap laptops come with 60-80 GB hard drives. Although the amount of gigabytes that your hard drive can hold is important, you must also take into account the hard drive speed. Anything running slower than 4200 rpm will not perform up to most computer laptop users standards. 7200 rpm is more than enough hard drive speed, and will read your data files extremely fast.

As for the optical drives, personally, I would go with a computer laptop that contains a DVD re-writable drive.

How to Choose Cheap Computer Laptops?

Buidling your own computer is fun.  Pick up the laptops at the store. Test the pointing device, track pad or track ball, the laptop alternatives to a mouse. Pay attention to screen size and resolution. LCD screens on laptops measure from 12 to 17 inches diagonally.  Choose a laptop with at least two USB connections. Hundreds of thousands of laptops are stolen every year. Install software that disables a stolen laptop, or better yet, reports the laptop‘s location when it connects to the Internet.
